Prepared for the Demands of Modern Project Delivery – IPD Training and Lean Management

At the end of last year, several employees took part in an intensive training course on Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Lean Management. The seminar was held at the BUILDING LAB in Regensburg and led by renowned experts from the construction industry.

The multi-party agreement – What is IPD and Why Is It Relevant?

Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a forward-thinking model for executing construction projects. It brings together all key project participants – clients, architects, planners, and contractors – into an alliance from a very early project stage.

The goals are:

  • Early integration of all perspectives
  • Shared responsibility for project outcomes
  • Maximum transparency, for example, through a joint cost model
  • A cooperative culture based on trust and fairness

A central feature is the IPD contract, which regulates risks, profits, and bonus agreements of all parties involved in a collaborative way. Instead of traditional individual contracts that often lead to conflicts of interest, IPD promotes joint optimization of quality, scheduling, and costs.

Real-World Example:
Among others, the IPD project “Alliance 3 Schools Bremerhaven” was presented, where eight alliance partners and coaches work together in a shared project office (colocation) – achieving success in efficiency, planning quality, and construction time.

Integration with Lean and BIM (Building Information Modeling):

IPD reaches its full potential especially when combined with Lean Management and Building Information Modeling (BIM). Continuous process improvement and digital tools significantly reduce time, costs, and errors, enabling projects to be realized in a goal- and schedule-oriented manner.

Conclusion:

The IPD workshop provided exciting insights into a highly topical subject that also opens up new perspectives for our own project work. Through the training, we were able to gain valuable knowledge and prepare ourselves for IPD and the future. Especially in sensitive and highly installed healthcare areas, where the highest demands are placed on quality, deadline reliability and interdisciplinary cooperation, IPD enables transparent processes and effective project implementation.

The HT GROUP is already involved in several projects that use the IPD model.
