The Research Institute of Biomedicine (IRB) is a center of excellence in the field of immunology. It has an active network of collaborations with the most prestigious institutions in the world and offers a unique scientific environment.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine was founded in 2000 with the goal of advancing the study of human immunology, with particular emphasis on the mechanisms of host defense. It has grown continuously and works closely with the Research Oncology Institute and the basic research laboratories of the Cantonal Hospital. The activities of the 13 research groups now extend beyond immunology to include the fields of DNA repair, rare diseases, structural and cell biology.

The IRB benefits from a wide international network of collaborations and provides teaching and training programs for graduate students from Swiss and foreign Universities.

HT Group built the new BSL-3 laboratory areas with a wide range of built-in components.
