Akureyri Hospital

Akureyri Hospital in Iceland has established a new hospital pharmacy with a cleanroom unit. The unit is used for production of cytostatics for cancer treatment, CDR (cytotoxic drug reconstitutions) and TPN (Total parenteral nutrition).

The building was built as a cleanroom/containment facility in compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) and comprises an area of 180 sqm.

The facility is divided in two parts, a CDR part and the TPN part with a shared control room. The CDR area consists of a grade B preparation room equipped with biosafety cabinets (BSC) for handling cytostatics in grade A, a grade C storage room and adjacent personnel airlocks and material hatches.

The TPN area similarly. The grade D control room is placed between the CDR and the TPN area, has an adjacent personnel airlock and is connected to the CDR/TPN functions and the surrounding general pharmacy with material hatches.
