Modular Operating Room Solutions for Maximum Process Reliability
Niebüll Hospital, part of Klinikum Nordfriesland, serves as the acute care hospital for the South Tondern region, providing 24/7 primary and standard inpatient care as well as emergency medical services for the local population.
As part of the hospital’s expansion, a new functional wing with two state-of-the-art operating theatres was constructed, significantly modernizing the medical infrastructure and further enhancing the quality of patient care.
HT Group’s scope of work included the delivery and installation of two operating rooms equipped with modular wall and ceiling systems, doors, glazing, and the integration of all required medical technology. All interfaces with the electrical, plumbing, and building automation (MSR) systems were coordinated during the planning phase and implemented accordingly throughout the construction process.
To meet the stringent hygiene requirements for modern surgical environments, Class 1A recirculating air ceilings were installed. The operating theatres are supplied with conditioned air through large-area TAV (temperature-controlled laminar airflow) ceilings, creating a defined protected zone above the surgical field. This airflow concept ensures stable unidirectional airflow, minimizes airborne particle concentrations within the critical area, and complies with the requirements for safe, reliable, and reproducible operating room conditions.
The medical technology was fully integrated into the building systems. This included ceiling-mounted supply units, surgical lights, medical gas systems, electrical and data infrastructure, as well as the necessary interfaces to the building management system. All systems are monitored and controlled via the HT Control Room Management System.
HT Group’s modular systems are designed with maintenance accessibility in mind while ensuring long-term flexibility for future modifications and upgrades.
This project demonstrates the importance of early integration planning and the consistent coordination of all technical interfaces to ensure the successful operation of complex healthcare facilities.
