BSL 3

SAFETY LEVEL 3

Research is carried out on risk level 3 biological substances in laboratories with the biological safety level 3.
These substances spread very easily from person to person, but effective measures can be undertaken against them.
However, the protective measures in BSL 3 laboratories are very high. If research work is undertaken with air-borne pathogens,
the laboratory must be structurally separated. Sluices, autoclaves and access controls must be installed at entrances and exits.

Due to the disinfection (gassing) with hydrogen peroxide or formalin, appropriately suitable materials and sealed wall, ceiling and door systems must be installed. 

RISK GROUP 3

Risk group 3 includes biological substances which can cause severe illness among humans and for which an effective prevention or treatment is, however, normally available.

Examples of this are hepatitis, yellow fever, anthrax etc.
