The continued development of transmissible contagious diseases such as Ebola, AIDS, SARS, avian flu, swine flu and tuberculosis represent 
an increasing danger. In order to be better prepared for such threatening situations and epidemics technologically
high-security laboratories have been set up to deal with biological pathogens.

GUIDELINES AND STANDARDS

BIOLOGICAL AGENTS

"Biological agents" are classified according to their degree of dangerousness (risk of infection, seriousness of the illness and treatment options) 
into four risk groups. These criteria are set out in the German Biological Substances Ordinance (BioStoffV) and in the standards from the USA 
and Canada: "Biosafety in Microbiological und Biomedical Laboratories" (BMBL) and "Canadian Laboratory Biosafety Guidelines Health Canada". 
A differentiation is made for laboratories according to these into four "Biological Safety Levels" (BSL 1 to BSL 4). 

Depending on the level of the pathogen to be investigated, there are appropriate requirements profiles for each of the laboratories. 
HT specialises, in particular, in the high demands of the risk groups at safety levels 3 and 4.

 

CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT

SYSTEMATIC SAFETY

In research laboratories it is necessary to have a standardised and controlled environment which is protected by a hygienic barrier.

Only then can it be ensured that the laboratory is free of undesired physical, chemical and biological effects and that as a result reproducible,
comparable and significant test results can be guaranteed. The hermetically sealed laboratory systems are hygienic and
microbiologically shielded units.

Technical barriers, control and monitoring systems guarantee the maintenance, control and transparency of the safety guidelines determined
by sets of German domestic and international rules. All technical building parameters are connected into the control process, the issuing of
alarms and the monitoring through detectors and sensors. This results in a safe research environment for the handling of highly infectious
and dangerous substances.

Thanks to the HT modular systems, changes and adjustments to new requirements and access to technical equipment can be
achieved quickly, cleanly and in an uncomplicated manner.
